Blog #4 - Position Taking, Credit-Claiming and Advertising

 Blog #4

Mayhew's theory that Senator's are single-minded seekers of re-election is the central focus of this blog post. Today, I am going to examine Murkowski's Twitter and look for her position taking, credit-claiming, and advertising.

Position Taking

The first tweet I want to take a look at is Lisa announcing she is going to take the position of voting to confirm KBJ. This is a position that fits with the non-partisan thing she has going on. The tweet had tons of support as well.

Credit-Claiming

Here is an example of Lisa credit-claiming. There were other more recent examples, but I found this to be a good one because she says "I was proud to secure funding for initiatives." In other tweets she also talks about how much this bill will do for Alaska.

She also talks about bringing internet to rural communities in a different tweet, and links to this article with a catchy headline. In the tweet, she again totes that it is a bipartisan bill which is on brand.

Advertising

This is Lisa advertising herself speaking in memorial of an Alaskan congressman who recently passed away. She will often put links on her Twitter to live videos of her testifying or speaking.

Conclusion

I want to showcase one last tweet. It is a video of the truly beautiful Alaskan landscape. Even something like this could be being used as a tool to humanize Murkowski and not make everything about politics though. It's evident that the position taking, credit-claiming, and advertising from Mayhew's theory all are present on her social media pages.
